My recent trip to the DC Summit was both encouraging and deeply affirming. As I met with leaders from HUD, the West Wing Faith Office, the HHS Faith Office, Congressman Jeff Crank, and others, one message came through clearly: faith-based providers are being recognized as primary care providers for those suffering from substance use disorder.

Residents have many experiences going through their REbuilt recovery program. Some are carrying burdens of regret and shame. Others are facing their struggles and hardships for the first time in their lives. Several are experiencing breakthroughs from a variety of issues. But there is one experience that continues to be my prayer for residents, which I have come to reference as ‘The Romans 8:28 Experience.’ 

For a deeply rooted problem like addiction, there is no quick fix. However, there is hope for true, lasting recovery. Recovering from long-term issues requires long-term support.

At Jericho Road Ministries we have a 25 month program, but it comes in stages. As an individual continues through the program, he or she will get opportunities to experience more freedoms. One of those opportunities is to move from our main men’s or women’s center, where everyone starts, to one of our transitional houses.

There's something profoundly sacred about simply sitting down and listening. On October 9th and 10th, I had the incredible privilege of hosting "Conversations on a Bench" right here in our community, and I'm still processing the depth of what I experienced.

At Jericho Road Ministries, we've spent 27 years walking alongside individuals on their journey from addiction to freedom. We've learned something critical: real transformation doesn't happen in 30 days, 90 days, or even six months. Addiction fundamentally shatters lives, and rebuilding a life requires time—often two full years.
